Kingstonians traveling to London, Ontario in a year or two will be able to find gambling, dining and live music at a new casino complex set to open in 2021:

While many gamblers are switching to online platforms for a variety of reasons – including convenience, reliability, and winning potential – the fact that physical casinos continue to be built is proof that the charm of an actual casino is difficult to replicate online and there will always be business for brick-and-mortar gambling sites. However, online casinos also have their own appeal, as demonstrated by sites such as Mansion Casino and others.

A casino was considered for Kingston back in 2012, with the City seeking public opinion on the decision, but ultimately went to nearby Gananoque, currently the site of Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands.

A public meeting was conducted in June at London Chamber of Commerce to present details related to the project. The future casino will cover 9290 m² and house 40 table games, 900 slot machines, multiple restaurants and live music. Once completed, it is projected to be the British Columbia based company’s biggest investment in the Ontario region.

Speaking to the media, Chamber of Commerce CEO Gerry Macartney said, “This casino will provide jobs for people who are looking for them. Where the 401 and 402 meet, that is at the apex of the busiest trade corridor on the planet. It’s strategically important for them, and for us.”

Expected to open in 2021

Gateway has already submitted an application to rezone the 3354 and 3334 Wonderland Rd. S. site, which falls in between Wharncliffe Road and Bradley Avenue, close to all the big box retail stores. The company is optimistic about opening up the doors of this casino in 2021, and envision London as eventually becoming the entertainment hub of south-western Ontario.

Highlighting the smaller casinos in Chatham, Dresden, Clinton and Woodstock, Carrie Kormos, Gateway’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, said that whether someone is looking for a night out involving gambling, fine dining or live entertainment, they will provide all kinds of options, suiting every taste.
